My name is Dexter Applington, and I’m a patient here at Idaho Orthodontics.

I was always negative about my smile. I’d think, “Oh, I have a really bad smile,” so I was really glad that I could get braces early on and fix that.

I started my treatment around three years ago. It’s felt really fast, and I’m about to get my braces off in about a month.

Everyone here is so kind, and I love talking to Mr. McMinn. He coaches with some of my other friends’ coaches, and he’s always really positive around us.

Sometimes there’ll be a bracket or something that’s poking your gums, and you can just get an appointment right away. In the next one or two days, you can get that fixed up.

Braxton’s Braces Journey: Gaining Confidence with Idaho Orthodontics

How do patients feel about their braces experience at Idaho Orthodontics?
Many patients, like Dexter, come in feeling self-conscious about their smile and leave feeling much more confident. They often mention that the process feels faster than expected and that the atmosphere is kind, positive, and encouraging.
What is the staff and doctor-patient relationship like?
Patients describe the team—and doctors like Dr. McMinn—as friendly, upbeat, and easy to talk to. Building a positive relationship with kids and teens is a big focus, so visits feel more like catching up with people you know than going to a “scary” doctor appointment.
What happens if a bracket breaks or something is poking my gums?
If you have a poking wire, broken bracket, or irritation, you can call the office and they’ll usually get you in within a day or two. Quick comfort visits help keep treatment on track and make sure you’re not dealing with soreness longer than necessary.
How long does braces treatment usually take for kids and teens?
Treatment time varies, but for many kids and teens it’s around 2–3 years, similar to Dexter’s experience. Some cases are shorter and some longer depending on how complex the bite is. During your consultation, the orthodontist will give you a personalized estimate for how long your braces are likely to take.
