Designing Braces Treatment

Discover how digital intraoral scanning and 3D printing are making brace placement faster, more accurate, and more efficient—leading to shorter treatment times.

[Dr. Jeff Mcminn]

Thanks to our intraoral scanning technology, we can now place braces digitally—moving the teeth precisely where we want them to be. Using this digital plan, we then 3D print a custom brace placement guide, allowing for faster and more accurate brace placement.

Before this technology, braces were placed manually, one by one in the mouth. That process was slower and less accurate.

Now, bracket placement is accurate to within a tenth of a millimeter. This level of precision can lead to quicker and shorter overall treatment times.

Using our intraoral scanning technology, we’re now able to place braces digitally.

First, we scan your teeth and virtually move them into the ideal positions. From there, we 3D print a custom brace placement guide that helps us position each bracket exactly where it needs to go. This lets us do more accurate and faster brace placements.

Before this technology, braces were placed one bracket at a time directly in the mouth, which made the process longer and often less precise.

With our digital process, bracket placement is accurate down to a tenth of a millimeter. This level of accuracy can lead to more efficient tooth movement and can result in quicker, shorter overall treatment times.

Designing Braces Treatment

What is digital braces placement?
Digital braces placement is a modern technique where we use intraoral scanners to create a 3D model of your teeth. We then plan where each bracket should go on the computer before your appointment and use a 3D-printed placement guide to position the braces accurately and efficiently.
How is this different from traditional braces placement?
With traditional methods, brackets are placed one by one directly in your mouth, which can be more time-consuming and slightly less precise. With digital placement, we plan everything ahead of time on a 3D model and use a custom guide to place multiple brackets at once. This makes the appointment faster and more comfortable for you.
Why does more accurate bracket placement matter?
When brackets are placed exactly where they should be, the braces can move your teeth more efficiently. This can mean smoother tooth movement, fewer adjustments, and in many cases, shorter overall treatment time. Precise placement also helps us achieve the best possible smile and bite.
Does digital braces placement cost more than traditional braces?
Because every situation is different, the cost depends on your individual treatment plan. In many cases, digital placement is simply part of how we deliver care using advanced technology. At your consultation, we’ll review your options, explain any costs clearly, and help you choose the treatment that fits your needs and budget.
