Putting Braces on Taya!

What happens when I get my braces put on at Idaho Orthodontics?
At your braces-on appointment, we’ll first clean and dry your teeth, then carefully position each bracket in the ideal spot. Once the brackets are in place, we use a special adhesive and cure it with an ultraviolet light so the braces bond securely. After that, we place the wire and secure everything with tiny elastics.
Does it hurt when braces are first put on?
Getting braces on usually doesn’t hurt—you may feel some pressure while the brackets are placed and the wire is attached, but it’s generally very manageable. Most patients notice soreness or tenderness later that day or the next day, as the teeth begin to move. This is normal and usually improves in a few days.
What is the ultraviolet light used for during braces placement?
The ultraviolet (curing) light is used to harden the bonding material that holds the brackets onto your teeth. It helps the adhesive set quickly and securely, so your braces stay in place while we guide your teeth into their new positions.
How long does it take to get braces put on?
Most braces-on appointments take about 60–90 minutes, depending on the case. During this time, we’ll place all the brackets, cure them with the light, attach the wire, and go over instructions for caring for your braces, what to expect over the next few days, and how to handle any soreness or questions that come up.
